The
WAEC E-Registration system is a sophisticated
but easy-to-use portal that allows schools
in Nigeria to register their candidates
online through the internet. It makes
registration easier for schools and
eliminates errors in registration information
which are hitherto made on paper and
only detected while processing the paper
forms by WAEC.
The
online system has the following features:
-
Collects
payment information from approved
banks.
-
Use
the payment infomation to obtain a
PIN from the site. The PIN can be
used for a single or batch registraton,
depending on the amount paid and the
cost of the examination for that particular
year. Once the number paid for is
exhausted, the system will disallow
additional registration on that PIN
except if more payments are made.
-
In
addition to Obtaining PINs, schools
are allowed to create account in the
system which they will use to access
their information subsequently.
-
The
actual registration is where candidates'
exam information are captured including
the passport photographs. There is
also provision for uploading candidates'
continuous assessment for SS1, SS2
and SS3 respectively.
- Generation
of examination number is the last stage.
This allocates sit numbers to candidate.
There
is another interesting aspect of the system
- batch registration. Some schools may
want to use the offline version of the
software to collate the candidates' data,
do all the necessary corrections and then
upload the batch to the server. What happens
is that the offline application generates
an XML file that contains the students'
data with the passport photographs, the
generated file is then uploaded to the
server.
In
addition to the above, the application
has an administrative side, where registration
is monitored, payments are monitored and
schools with problems are given support.
As
at this year, this system has suceessfully
and culmulatively captured over 3,500,000
candidates' information who sat for WAEC
examination.
